Film of the Day #29: Strange Days (1995), Dir....
THIS is why I chose to watch a new film every fucking day! So I can find these majestic fucking jems! Obviously, I liked this. I had never even heard of it before it was reccomended to me, despite being directed by Kathryn Bigelow AND written by James Cameron. I was amazed by the visuals more than anything but the story is fucking tense. I wish there were more original action stories like this...
The last honourable mentions before I post my...
The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt
Abe Vigoda - Crush
Born Ruffians - Say It
El Guincho - Pop Negro
The Books - The Way Out
Spoon - Transference
Baths - Cerulean
Avey Tare - Down There
Wavves - King of the Beach

Film of the Day #28: The Godfather Part III...
The ONLY reason I nevr saw this before yesterday was because of pure love for the first two. Seriously, the first one soooo fucking slick. It’s one of them films I’ve seen so many times. And the second one. We all know that this is the worst one and whoever thinks it isn’t is stupid. A lot of people say it ruins the series. That’s why I was so reluctant to watch it. But I...

Film of the Day #27: Vertigo (1958), Dir. Alfred...
Again this is a film I should have seen by now, but I’ve seen very few Hitchcock films although I love the ones I have seen. This film of course was the first film to use the ‘Vertigo’ shot and it’s apparently Hitchcock’s masterpiece, which is all I knew going in to this film. I was expecting a masterpiece but I didn’t really find it that great. Sorry, just...

I don’t see why it needs to be three vinyls though. Think that’s a bit silly.

Went shopping in Leeds with my peeps today. Yes, I...
This time I bought so much money on clothes got a jumper, a pretty fly hoody etcetc. I wasn”t even planning on hitting the record store. But I just couldn’t resist. There wasn’t anything I particularly wanted apart from the Jazz albums I didn’t have but I saw the woman on the front of Contra just staring at me. It’s one of my favourites of the year* and I...

Love Is All // Two Thousand And Ten Injuries...
I’ve been in love with love Is All for as long as I can remember. A punk outfit that’s lead by a woman with a quirky voice largely resembles Yeah Yeah Yeahs and it wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve been compared to the iconic NY rockers many times in the past. But where YYYs explore different sounds with each album and EP, which in my opinion is why anything after Fever To Tell is drivel, Love Is...

Film of the Day #26: Glengarry Glen Ross (1992),...
Last night I watched this banteriffic film. It was reccomended to me by a friend and so happy he did. If he didn’t I might have never EVER watched this. From what I’ve read it’s really overlooked. Like The Social Network (2nd best film of the year may I add) ‘Glengarry’ is no more than heated arguements in rooms. But it’s SO fucking clever. Every single...

^That’s me :D:D:D
Okay, me and my friend Tom are the greatest gift getters ever. Ask anyone. Our ‘back catologue’ features a book we wrote for Ashleigh chronicling her life (in our eyes, of course. It was VERY dirty and vile), A tube of wrapping paper that WAS WRAPPED UP (so awesome) for Miriam, A children’s book for Chelsey that we READ to her, among others. The list...

YES. Confirmation and proof that Gang Gang Dance are hard at work on a new album. Back in 2008 they released one of my favourite albums of the decade and one of my all time favourite avant-garde albums. Get ready for an undoubtedly brilliant album. Also, this might mean a tour is on the table in the near future sometime. this has confirmed 2011 will kick 2010’s arse in the musik world

HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECCOMENDED: jj // Kills (Mixtape)
I think they like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy almost as much as me! Considering this is a mixtape and includes a LOT of samples compared to their albums (which don’t have any samples to my knowledge), it’s sooo much better than their last album, jj n° 3. Thanks for the unexpected Christmas present jj!!

It’s even worse than their last album (The Hazards of Love). It’s a shame. Picaresque and The Crane Wife are two VERY special albums in my opinion. Colin Meloy, what happened?

Film of the Days #24 and #25
A Fistful of Dollars (1964), Dir. Sergio Leone
Bought these and two other Leone films based on my love for Once Upon A Time In America. It wasn’t the masterpiece I was expecting but it is one cool-ass film, especially the last shoot-out. I wish I was a gunslinger like Clint so bad. I haven’t seen the two sequels before but I plan on watching them soon. That’s all I can really...

Celebrations! I've decided my top albums and...
This took so long. So many fucking good albums have been released this year. I’ve made a list of my favourite 25. Any more than that would be silly. Like I’ve said before, I think long lists are pointless and defeat the purpose of awarding your favourite albums. There’s nothing special about it if you do a top 50 and name half (or more) of the albums you’ve listened to that...

Film of the Day #23: The Tourist (2010), Dir....
Not gonna write much because I’m incredibly tired and have to get up early to see TRON tomorrow at IMAX. So psyched for that despite they disgustingly high amount of bad reviews the film has been getting. Hey, it has Jeff Bridges in it.
ANYWAY: Johnny Depp, the coolest actor of present day and Angelina Jolie, the most perfect and beautiful woman in the entire world? Yes. Perfect film. Not...

Taxi Driver > Goodfellas > The Departed > Raging...
They’re all great films apart from Boxcar Bertha in my opinion. I know I’ve only seen like half of his films, but I’m gonna definitely watch New York, New York this week and hopefully Shutter Island before the year is up too. Taxi Driver is such a perfect film. One of my all time favourites for sure. Scorsese is such a great film maker.

Film of the Day #22: Casino (1992), Dir. Martin...
Watched it for the first time for my film a day project. I pretty much got what I expected. I see this as like a nice companion to Goodfellas, it’s really similar. It’s really long winded and there is absolutely no need to be the length it is. But hey, it’s Scoresese.
I thought it was funny when the car exploded the second time. You can see it blatantly cut from DeNiro to...

Film of the Day #21: The Player (1992), Dir....
Epic, epic, EPIC opening scene. Not sure how long it lasts, but it’s all one shot for at least five minutes. It looks so cool and there are sooooo many film references in that 5+ minutes than there is in the whole film. It’s such an instant classic in my book. The camera just pans and tracks around a fake Hollywood studio (I fucking absolutely love how one guy at the very beginning...

Record Store Purchases!
Haven’t wrote one of these posts for a while. Because I’m back in Halifax I obviously didn’t go to Picadilly Records like normal. Instead I went to the wonderful Jumbo Records in Leeds whilst Christmas shopping with the boys. So, as always there were dozens of records I wanted to buy but resisted buying any in case I get it for Christmas. But I was lucky enough to get the latest...
Film of the Day #20: Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009),...
I have no idea why I chose to watch this. Was in the mood for something light and funny. Kevin James is a funny fat guy. I like him. And I found it in my mom’s collection. What a load of shit. Very silly. Not my thing. That’s all I have to say. Sorry.

Girls - Broken Dreams Club REVIEW
In a world infested with drugs and inhabited with addicts, I really couldn’t care less if it’s that which causes masterpieces like Album to be made. Yeah, it’s tragic, people get killed every day due to horse tranquilizers, but why is it that a lethal weapon, worthy of killing people instantly can also make them geniuses? The truth is, It doesn’t. People always accuse drugs to be the source of...

There’s been six songs so far. I can’t decide from Last Night At The Jetty, You Can Count On Me or Alsation Darn as my favourite. I bought the limited 7” of Tomboy but totally forgot to buy the others. Tomboy is the worst one!

Film of the Day #19: The Hudsucker Proxy (1994),...
Woah, I think A Serious Man might have to step down to my fourth favourite Coen film. This film was odd, to say the least, but sooo fun. The style reminded me a lot of Barton Fink even though they’re entirely different.
In terms of the story, I don’t wanna give anything away so I’ll try to be cryptic. I never guessed what the circle on the paper signified either until the epic...

Film of the Day #17: The King of Comedy (1982),...
Continuing my Scorsese marathon after the disappointing Boxcar Bertha, I decided to watch King of Comedy, possibly the first film I’ve seen that doesn’t have DeNiro portraying a gangster and interestingly, this is probably the most interesting character he’s ever played. I really liked it. It’s not the most iconic Scorsese film obviously, but it’s really amusing....
