Alas
Honestly, shit cover. It would look good for the artwork for the next 7” but not for an album. The other 7” covers were better, and the shouldn’t look better than the album art…

Peter, Bjorn And John // Gimme Some Review
I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels that not a week goes by without hearing the tune of Young Folks on an advert for furniture or playing on a supermarket’s own radio or on a game show on the television. It’s the token catchy song that gets ruined because of multiple plays. Peter, Bjorn & John, I’m guessing are proud of it and so they should be. That song made them. But surely they must...

Ducktails // Arcade Dynamics
Ducktails is the project of Real Estate bass player Matthew Mondanile. Ducktails is the moniker he uses for his opaque daze-y bedroom pop music. He’s one of better known musicians for this ever expanding fashion that uses four-tracks to record their music. And I wish this fucking expedition would come to an end.
The whole album reminds me of Atlas Sound’s Logos, which was released back in ’09....

Fast & Furious (2009), Dir. Justin Lin
5/10 (The F&F series is a guilty pleasure, alright! This is easily the worst one though. But I was pretty much expecting it to be. And I hate how this film isn’t about street racing even in the slightest. I hope the next one goes back to its roots.)

Pretty sure it’s cause of a couple of negative reviews I’ve written. It’s pretty sad that some people act as if I’ve chatted shit about their mother after they’ve read a bad review of an album they like. should it be illegal to express an opinion if it’s negative. Jeez. And in each review I do discuss whatever good merits the album has in detail. How weak must...

Iron & Wine // Kiss Each Other Clean Review
Iron & Wine, although is a great name for a duo, is in fact the music outlet for the courageous Sam Beam, A crucial player in the indie universe whose music has reached out to more than the minority and loved by more people than the amount of hairs on his chin, which is a lot. I’ve fallen in love with his albums in the past and am too a sucker for his whispery melodies. Kiss Each Other Clean,...

8/10 (Loved this so much. Starting to think P.T. might just be my fave director. Boogie Nights, Magnolia and There Will Be Blood are three of my all time faves, and this is such a great little film that might not have the impact of those three films but it’s something very special. I need to get Hard...

No words can describe just how damn excited I am...
MF Doom is (probably) my all time favourite rapper. And his debut, Operation: Doomsday, has been out of print for a long time. Come Spring though, it will be back in print in a very special way. This is what it says on Stones Throw:
This Spring DOOM’s own label Metalface Records will be releasing the first complete & remastered version of OPERATION: DOOMSDAY, containing the original...

Oh sheesh y'all. Never told Y'ALL what I think of...
Meh. Maybe I got my hopes up too much. Wait, no I didn’t, Jay-Z and Kanye, that’s a powerhouse of rap right there. It’s a great track but the beats and the whole opera thang going on really doesn’t work well at all until the end. Lex Luger produced it (fuck knows why they’re collabing with the guy who makes beats for Wocka Flocka fucking Flame) but I’m pretty...

The Decemberists // The King Is Dead - Short...
I hate 3D. In my opinion it’s ruining cinema. It only works with state-of-the-art made for IMAX masterpieces in my opinion. This is like album production. It works for a few indie bands but epic and overproduced albums are becoming more and more frequent with bands that really don’t need it, just like 3D. In 2009 one band that really didn’t need it was The Decemberists, they created the most 3D...

Favourite Broadcast album?
rossbirks asked: It's a verrry interesting and experimental movie. Crazy editing and all sorts of other mental techniques that you'd expect from the 60s. I wouldn't say it's a great movie by any means but it's definitely worth checking out, if just because of how iconic and influential it is.

Smith Westerns // Dye It Blonde REVIEW
Before this year, I never listened to Smith Westerns. I thought they were just one of the bombardments of many garage pop bands recently. I’m not too sure why I’m reluctant to listen to them all because the ones I have discovered such as Harlem and The Love Language etc. have released the albums I found myself returning back to over and over again, and Dye It Blonde is no different. It has...

ULTRA Sorry about no reviews OR Film of the Days...
I’m back at uni, which means I’ve been drinking like a muthafucka and socialising and I haven’t had time to even look at Tumblr. BUT, I have still been watchin a film every day, more than one a day infact. But I’m not sure if I’ll carry on discussing them like I do because I don’t have much time anymore. Not sure what I’ll do. Might just bring back the...

Win Win
This band have their debut album coming out soon. And I don’t think they’ve gotten as much attention as they should have. Or maybe just not as much as I think a band would get when their upcoming album features the likes of Hot Chip and Gang Gang Dance. Okay, Hot chip are much, much bigger the GGD, but I adore GGD sooo much. And although the band have conjured some odd collaborations...

Film of the Day #37: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World...
I bought this at the same time as Youth In Revolt, and like Youth In Revolt I spent a lot of money on the blu-ray only to kick myself in the arse for wasting my money on such an underwhelming film. It wasn’t bad but it’s more than overrated. The special effects and all the ‘cool’ fight scenes were all well done but I was just SO bored when watching them. I’m sorry...

Destroyer // Kaputt REVIEW (Probably better than...
Kaputt came as a surprise to me. A big surprise. I’ve always loved Dan Bejar in both Swan Lake and Destroyer, but with the latter, his main outlet for his poetic stories of love and war, I’ve never found it amazingly layered with cohesively well-structured songs that have the same style from start to finish. My favourite Destroyer album, Destroyer’s Rubies (2006), demonstrates this well. It’s my...

Revisiting this...
Forgot about this little gem. God knows how long it’s been hiding in my hard drive for. Any AF fan who doesn’t have this should really check it out. It’s very good. Might be a bit hard to get your hands on. Can’t even remember how I managed to get it. But yeah, stripped down Arcade Fire material. It’s interesting to listen to if only to see how raw their music was...

Bad film. Avoid, avoid, avoid. Just another movie with Michael Cera playing Michael Cera. Really don’t get the big deal with him. He was funny in Superbad and the few episodes of Arrested Development I’ve seen (really need to start watching that from the beginning) but after that I just found him annoying. Don’t think I really laughed once. I really regret spending £14 on the...

Okay, why did I leave it so long to watch this! Such a great detective film. I was expecting great things but that doesn’t even begin to describe what shit goes down in the movie. It’s so tense and beautiful. My favourite scene is when they’re interrogating a couple of the patients. The two patients are so fucked up in different ways and Ruffalo and DiCaprio are treating each...

How do I choose what to get on Blu-Ray and what to...
I have a huge, huge, HUGE DVD collection, but I have a beautiful TV and a PS3 now so I’ve started getting blu-rays. Thing is they cost SO much. There’s no way I’m going to be able to replace all my DVDs with blu-rays. I also buy DVDs on a daily basis, there’s no way I can do that with blu-rays. So how do I decide whether to buy a certain film on DVD or blu-ray? Can anyone...

Favourite Best of/Greatest Hits compilation album?
Normally I am against best of albums and greatest hits collections. I hate them so much, they weren’t intended to be listened to like that. I especially hate it when they’re bands who regularly change their sound with each album so the songs change dramatically each time. It makes me mad! It just doesn’t work. I never get the urge to listen to a certain song, rather I get the...

Film of the Day #32: Once Upon A Time In The West...
Last night I watched this film for the first time. I had been sitting on it and was going to wait until I had watched the Dollars trilogy. But I had seen the opening scene to this before and I was in awe and simply couldn’t wait to see the whole film. So I watched it. And wow! Probably the best western film I have seen. So cinematic; Like when Bronson is playing that haunting harmonica...
