Well I thought J. Edgar was a great film. The film did have a few flaws but it was really clever, risky and compelling. It has some of the best acting I’ve seen in a while too. Clint always gets the best out of his actors and I’ve never seen DiCap perform better than he does here.
The Iron Lady on the other hand… Everything about this film was awful. I don’t have anything against Streep but here I thought she just seemed like she was doing a silly impression of Thatcher the whole time. The message of the film really wasn’t clear. I didn’t understand the aim or how they were trying to portray thatcher. Sometimes she was a crazy old lady, sometimes she was the horrible bitch that we know her as, sometimes she was very caring, sometimes she was an influential female figure. It seemed as if they just threw in archive footage of ‘Thatcher’s Britain’ because they had access to it. There has never been a more pointless biopic.
But yeah, I really, REALLY recommend J. Edgar. It’s a great experience.
